“Soy inglesa” (soy eeng-LES-a): “I (a woman) am English. ” “Este hombre es ingles. ” (ESS-tay OM-bray ess eeng-LES): “He is English. ” “¡Disfruta nuestro desayuno inglés!” (dis-FROO-ta noo-ESS-tro dess-AY-oon-o eeng-LES): “Enjoy our English breakfast!”
Unlike some other languages with a formal/informal distinction, like Russian, Spanish speakers tend to use the informal style of speech even with strangers.
If you’re in Spain, you may want to say “¿Habláis inglés?” (ab-LA-is eeng-LES). The second-person plural in Spain is different from the one used in Latin America, but saying “¿Hablan inglés?” will be understandable no matter where you are.
