How to Find a Song on Spotify Using Lyrics
You might already be familiar with Spotify’s real-time lyrics feature, which displays a song’s lyrics in time to the music. Using that lyric integration, Spotify also lets you find a song through its lyrics. The feature launched in October 2020 and was long overdue, since Apple Music offered the same functionality since 2018.
All you need to do is open Spotify’s search and type at least three words from a song’s lyrics. The more words you type, the more refined the results.
If you’re on mobile, matching results will display a Lyrics match tag. Other devices, like desktop, may not show this tag despite supporting the lyric search feature.
It means you don’t have to scramble around on lyric websites or use music recognition apps like Shazam. Even if you don’t know the song name or artist, all you need to know are a few of the words.
Spotify’s lyric search even works across multiple languages. As you might expect, the main scenario in which it doesn’t work is if Spotify doesn’t have a song’s lyrics in its database, though this is uncommon.
Try to Find a Song by Humming
If searching by lyrics still isn’t good enough to find the song you need, you could go one step further and use an app that searches by what you hum. Though Spotify doesn’t support this (yet), you can grab other free apps that do.
